Re: real compressed thickness of Ford Pinto Cometic head gasket
Thanks for the replies. I don´t think that the gasket would be prone to leak if not compressed to the full amount,it acts like a spring and does it anyway to follow the high frequently movements of the cylinderhead when sparking. Within this dynamic gap movements it may not leak at all. So I would s...

real compressed thickness of Ford Pinto Cometic head gasket
Guys, today we investigated a brand new Cometic head gasket of a Ford Pinto what I`m currently rebuilding for Rallye usage. We had some issues with the CR, so we talked about the compressed thickness and measured all 5 layers, but only the sheet thickness without the embossments. The gasket is rated...

Steel tube 15CDV6 1.7734.5 to source
Guys, I´m desperately looking for a small quantity of steel tube 15CDV6, well suitable to make pushrods ( at least for my classic french race engine), does anyone know where to source? Here over in Germany it´s quite impossible to get these small quantities. I need OD 8 mm (0,315") and 1mm wall...

Top piston ring gap - whats really required?
Guys, I´m German and involved in serial engine development and some years in the past I was involved in racing engines like DTM a.s.o. What I´m wondering about are the big ring end gaps what are recommended by the well known piston manufacturers. With respect, I don´t want to doubt about their knowl...

Re: solid lifter source 0,826" lightweight
Guys, I´ve now finished my valve lifters by myself. If someone is interested, the weight now is 20 gr ( stock is 37 gr) Can´t hardly believe that there are existing those parts anywhere on the globe which are comparable weight. Additionaly, they are 2 mm bigger ( 21 mm) in Dia to accept a bigger cam...

Re: Firebird V6 engine mods
Udo, What do you think about the suggestions? Does your wife get to drive the Alpine while you massage the Firebird? :D Kind regards, Kevin P.S. Please post a pic of the Alpine -- you should try to find a Matra Djet 6S to round out your stable. @Kevin....how do you know about my Alpine :oops...

Re: Firebird V6 engine mods
Guys, sorry I´ve overslept this thread any more, it´s now 2 years passed by…just found it again by accident…. I didn´t do anything with the cars power, I wouldn´t definitly swap to a 3,4 or 3,8 L, much too much expense for me over here. Maybe I remove the heads and do a nice porting, together with a...

Ford Sierra Pinto SOHC Cyl.head
I´m looking for a 2 Liter Ford Pinto SOHC cylinderhead, but only for the later spec of the Ford Sierra with injection. This head should be remaining in virgin conditon, no porting, no planning, no bigger valves. Condition should be without worn out valve guides. Best would be to source it from Germa...

Re: oil ring support rails / some quests
Thanks a lot, Mark, I´m going to contact totalseal. I´m not worried about the loads, as I said, oil support rings are entirely uncommon in Germany. I would have already switched to 2 ring pistons to overcome that problem. Supposedly these are uncommon in USA in turn

Re: oil ring support rails / some quests
@Mark: .030? Crazy, thats really small…..I think they do so to be able to press the dimple through the thin wall....Do you know if there are any other manufacturers who are offering 3.15" rails which might be a bit thicker ? I´m worried that those thin rails will be distorting and hinder the mo...

Re: oil ring support rails / some quests
After your replies, supposedly I have confused the height of the rail with the radial width. Do you refer the 0,126" is the radial dimension? This would be ok, I first confused it with the axial height of the rail , oops…..I thought you could use it as a circlip for a truck propshaft….. @Mark O...

oil ring support rails / some quests
Guys, I´m going to source oil ring support rails for my small Renault Alpine engine. In Germany or even Europe, they are not known at all....now I found some at CP-Carillo with 3,149" bore. They would be ok, but what I´m wondering about, they are 0,126" wide ( 3,2 mm) , I´ve hoped for just...

Re: Mikuni carbs vs. injected ITBs
I think on the MGBs with relativly low power is not that big advantage with Mikunis, because the bifurcated intake manifolds keeps the engine low on power, at least compared to an ITB-layout. On the bifurcation there would be some wetting be present from the fuel anyway. Unfortunatly, John Parker do...
