Re: Free - hi-tech 5-75 hp dyno

Been a bit now... any more hints or answers on how that part of it works?

Re: 3D Printing - Cool Assembly Tools?

I've been too chicken to do even a printed nylon intake manifold so I went down the investment cast PLA route.

I really really like whoever brought up the bridgeport Z axis adapter, going to be doing one of those shortly now.

Re: Free - hi-tech 5-75 hp dyno

The integral calculus. Progression to infinitesimals can be a defined step function and each step is a steady state of finite but defined duration. Think about the riser and tread in a staircase. Right, but if you go that path, you're going to have to deal with that the engine isn't truly steady st...

Re: Free - hi-tech 5-75 hp dyno

I'm really curious because all the methods I can readily think of are cheating... some sort of non-inertial load. I definitely don't want to deprive someone who could use this exact thing by throwing my hat in the ring, but given the capabilities of the data acquisition I have at my disposal, I thin...

Re: Free - hi-tech 5-75 hp dyno

OK, so what is this novel concept that allows steady state or constant ramp speed on an inertial dyno? That's an interesting detail.

I understand "skeptical". Even if something makes sense it doesn't mean it works. I'm a big believer in careful testing where possible.

[quote=mekilljoydammit essentially trying to convert a Weber downdraft to a Holley style N&S, so there'll be machining involved anyway. If i may ask. Which downdraft weber and as to why you want to convert? Webers have a wide range of sizes and some high flow types as well. And majori...

Re: Willy's Super Bowls

I made this video while still at my former company. The primary bowl (on the right) actually had a top feed n/s with a .250" needle size and the secondary was a normal top feed .110". The primary n/s was run at 2 psi (low psi-hi flow) while the secondary was run at 6 psi. The difference i...

Re: Oil cooler location in dry sump system

Hydraulic pumps don’t typically aerate the oil with large amounts of combustion gasses. The residency time is also substantially longer with hydraulic reservoir tanks. I am tired at present and really don't want to read through an MIT thesis again to cite by direct quotation. The size of suspended ...

Re: Oil cooler location in dry sump system

That's one of many differences, yeah. Put it a different way... I know why wet sump engines put the filter and cooler (if any) on the pressure side of the pump - there's nothing else making the oil move around. I know the tradeoffs about putting stuff on the pressure vs scavenge side on hydraulic sy...

Re: Oil cooler location in dry sump system

Here's where I'm sitting at and some thinking. In hydraulic system practice, filters are commonly on the return side to the tank. If you think about it, once stuff is cleaned out after fab and the rest, there shouldn't be any contamination introduced between the tank and the pump, nor between the pu...

Re: Oil cooler location in dry sump system

The specific thing I'm looking at is for a rotary powered roadrace car, so too much heat rejection into the oil for too long to get away without a cooler.
