Re: Scat Pro Comp I-Beam Connecting Rods - Balancing/Grinding
Caution: If you grind anywhere on the big end of the rods go back and check the big end roundness. When we are resizing and balancing any rods we size to within -.0015, balance the rods untorque retorque then go back and finish to size. You won’t believe how much they will move. Also when you size t...

Re: Key way wore loose?
I don’t remember the company that sold them, but I have some 3/16 x 3/4 carbon keys. Place one in the worn key way slot, tig around the carbon key, grind the weld down to the height of the radius of the crank, chip the carbon out of the key way, insert new key and install new balancer. As pointed ou...

Re: Small stem diameter stainless valves
Modok’s comment on the rocker arm loading is what I’ve found. In the late 80’s early 90’s we changed a 15 * Pontiac wedge head 11/32 titanium valve over to 7mm titanium intake valves with around .750 lift. After the Change we started to see a funny looking pattern on the lash cap and guide wear. Had...

Re: small block ford dual plane intake comparison
Tom68 was asking for a comparison of F4B to an Edelbrock RPM Performer. On a 306 with E Street heads, 9.6 compression, Comp version of 271 solid cam and 80457 Holley the Performer RPM made 50 HP more 298 chp to 352 chp moved cam (customer assemble and did put the cam where it needed to be) 2 degrees...

Re: cheap big block build
Be careful When selecting a cam to use with these pistons. A cam with close lobe centers requires deeper valve reliefs. Also be sure and check valve to piston radial clearance when using larger valves. Smaller chamber heads are desirable because the factory compression is around

Re: a "thin" 4150 flange to 4500 flange
Can you change the carb base plate to one with the slotted holes that will bolt to either 4150 or 4500. Then use a Edelbrock thin shim like used on the 2101 intake when using a Holley carb

Re: turning engine over
Babbitt or roller cam bearings ?
With that much spring seat pressure and babbitt cam bearings it will add a lot of turning resistant till oil pressure floats the cam

With a SOHC like 22R has we usually set the exhaust .002 looser to allow for stem growth. Intake usually stays the same.

Re: oil in water and water in oil
Do you know if you had this problem before you changed the heads ? My experience with getting oil in the water and water in the oil is from a cracked block. There is not anything above the head gasket on a SBF that can transfer both ways. I’ve seen this in 2.8 Chevy, In-line 6 Chevy, FE Ford. When t...
