Re: Chevy 193 Swirl port Mission Impossible
I love stuff like this. I was told in the 1990's I needed headers and aluminum aftermarket intake to run in the 13's with my 1978 Nova. I built a 350" engine for it with 186 heads I worked over with 1.94-1.50 valves and then ported the Cast iron Q jet intake and ported the iron exhaust manifold...

Re: Quick and dirty grudge.
I have ran the LT4 hot grind a few times but I had it custom ground. I did not care for the small duration on the intake side as that is just limiting the engine all around. I have it ground using the exhaust master only so 228@ .050 on both sides. I do not like that 112 LSA either as it closes the ...

Re: anyone ever here of "excessive acceleration"
I went to court and fought a ticket similarly worded. I plead not guilty and told the judge I was not speeding, I was not screetching my tires, I was not swerving sideways and I was going perfectly straight in my lane. He asked the officer if that was true and she said yes it's true. Dismissed. A we...

Re: Somebody has to be wrong
Driven BR is highly rated. Flat tappets or otherwise.
Do you have a specific weight that you prefer? Seems SAE 30 is also recommended.

I have used the 15-50 and the 10-40 BR oil and no issues with either one. I have been using the 10-40 for the last couple years.

Re: Somebody has to be wrong
Year 2000 I built a 302 Ford .030 over and 620 grit hone plateau finish with TQ plates. E251K rings which are wide moly faced top and cast second. 260H comp cam grind flat tappet . My own experiment was to run 10-30 mobil 1 synthetic for break in because everyone said rings would not seat cam would ...

Re: Junk build ideas 305 heads
I have ran many factory iron heads and most all of them were ported by me. Nothing fancy just bowl porting thinning guides and raising exhaust port a bit and unshrouding the chambers in the right spots. 305 heads are awesome in my book. I have ran 186 casting and 041 and milled my 186 to 54cc and in...

Re: Opinions on max Bbc compression
That BBC I built for my friend I did all the same stuff to it with Domed pistons as I do with the smaller chamber SBC with flat tops. The hotter temps of engine coolant and wear in my testing based on zero proof. All my engines i run cold in the 160-180 and prefer 160 and in the cooler months fall/w...

Re: Opinions on max Bbc compression
I built a 396" .030"+ bore for a friend and set it up with 11:1 and 280H comp magnum flat tappet cam on a 108LSA 104 intake centerline. 210 psi cranking pressure large oval open chamber heads. The key for me to run higher compressions is NO sharp edges in the combustion space chambers are ...

Re: Valve events what happens only one event is moved
268H cam master 218@ .050 .454" lift and had my cam grinder grind one on a 106 LSA and the next cam was ground on a 112 LSA only moving the exhaust lobe. Intake centerline was set up at 102. The 106 made more power up top and pulled hard to 7000 rpm valve float at 7200 the 112 lsa was all done ...

Re: SuperStock PowerPack SBC Heads
Friend wanted to go quick and have a good daily driver and was saving for some AFR heads. He had a 78 Nova and a 305" engine in it with 2 barrel carb. He got a 40 over flat top 350 and i did some bowl porting to the 305 2 barrel heads and kept the stock 1.72-1.50 valves in them. No reason to sp...

Re: Oil viscosity vs engine longevity
Nice to know about the BMW. I know this thread originated in 2015. That .0015" max reminds me of a story from my uncle that sold bearings to a guy that owned a factory 440 Mopar engine. Kept messing up the bearings and my uncle asked what clearance he was running and it was .0015". My uncl...

218@ .050 sbc 350.
Assuming hydraulic measured at .006".
That was the 268H Competition cams high energy hydraulic flat tappet masters.

I have had 3 cams ground using the same masters and one on a 106 LSA one on 112 LSA and one on 114 LSA. 218@ .050 sbc 350. 2" difference in idle vacuum from 106 to 112 and you could not tell by ear that you changed cams. Both cams installed at 102 intake centerline. same cranking pressure 225 P...

Re: "Running on gas vapors got me 400MPG" really?....
There must be something to the heat thing, all of my sbc powered cars gain 1-2 mpg when the weather warns up. Power goes down accordingly. At first I thought it to be related to the choke, but a manual choke, or in some cases no choke proved it to not be much of a factor. My afr gauges say the rati...
