Re: afr 195 eliminators on mild 406
F-Bird is dead on. I've got a 406 street/strip (50/50) combo similar to your friends. I've got Brodix T1 M2s with 215 runners and a small solid roller. It's a good combo, but if i had to do it again, I'd probably go with the 195 competition heads. These 215s would be better suited for a 7000+ applic...

Re: Cranking Compression limit for pump gas
Thanks everyone. Any other thoughts or anyone else running over 200 psi on pump gas?

Cranking Compression limit for pump gas
Is there any truth to the 200 psi cranking compression limit for pump gas? I have an 11:1 406 with a relatively small solid roller which is installed 1 degree retarded (ICL 113), and it currently cranks about 190 psi (no plugs, throttle open). I'd like to advance the cam to around 108 ICL, however m...

Re: Does displacement really rule?
Hi Andy. While i agree with your assessment, it might be less expensive to just swap the crank and pistons than trying to improve the induction system. The additional output will overcome the additional internal loses within reasonable limits. I consider adding cubes a brute force method of improvin...

Re: Does displacement really rule?
For fun i did a comparison in my simulators. I took my 406 with a peanut street roller cam, an 800 cfm MAF and heads that i would consider too small for a 436. I simply changed the stroke from 3.75 to 4.00. Hp & torque peaks moved down about 250-300 rpms. The hp peak only increased by about 5 hp...

Re: Engine temperature variations?
He said it runs at cool w/o the stat. Therefore i believe the water pump is doing it's job, but for whatever reason the stat is taking too long to open or not opening at all.

Re: Does displacement really rule?
I suppose that if your current combo is totally optimized, you may not see much of a HP gain with just an increase in discplacement, however that is rarely the case. I've seen this keyboard debate several times, but in real life drag racing, more displacements almost always equals quicker ETs. The o...

Re: 383 Crank Options
If i were shooting for 650 hp and 7500 rpms and I planned to keep it for a while, i'd use a forged crank. You should be able to find a forged crank for well under $1000. For example I bought mine from CNC Motorsports with .010 under mains for $385 shipped. On the other hand, if you're only going to ...

Re: Engine temperature variations?
Well it sure sounds like you're not getting any flow with the stat in there. Are you sure you haven't eliminated a necessary bypass and/or the coolant passeages in the chinese manifold line up correctly and/or the heater is plumbed correctly? You might try drilling a couple of 3/16 holes in the stat...

Re: F.A.S.T. How do they do it?
I've seen these guys run at Etown and it's amazing how they launch on those tires. I spoke to a few of them and they told me they run upwards of about 50+ PSI in the tires too. These cars look like they just rolled off the factory floor. I was very impressed with mid to high 10s, and now it seems th...

Re: Needing a stretch gauge
I've got the Jegs guage and the spring is plenty strong. I've used it several times and it repeats very well. However if i owned a shop, i'd get the ARP. But if you do 1 engine a year, the JEGs guage is fine IMO.

Re: Is this cam right ??
Had the same thing happen to a crower cam after about 100 runs. They had me send them the cam and lifters for analysis. Then they wouldn't return my calls, letters emails. The cam was probably one of the most expensive pieces in the world and IMO, it was soft. Worst part was they stole my perfectly ...

Re: Running air conditioning in a street car
I still have the A/C in my car, 11:1 406 with a similar cam. Biggest issue for me is keeping the engine cool. It will maintain about 180-185deg in almost any weather, but when the A/C is on it will go well over 200 and in traffic, it will go to infinity & beyond
