2nd H-Pipe farther down "stream"
Hello, Current Exhaust on my 385 SBC. on my 73 vette so overall length isn't too bad. Header collectors (3") flow into 3" exhaust pipe for leading 4'. Then by the rear cross member, it tapers down to 2-1/2", which continues through FM super 40s and a short 2-3/3" tail pipe. All b...

SBC 383 Oil Pressure Results
Thought for a while as to post this or not; not looking for answers but to share. 12:1 383 SBC. Back story history: 2 years ago the MSD distributor gear was destroyed- eaten away. I flushed the motor with kerosene, replaced the gear with the appropriate one, via Chris Straub. During this same time p...

Re: SBC 383. Blow by
Ok. Been awhile. Had the heads done over the winter and just got reassembled. Motor fired right up and it doesn’t smoke!16 valve guides, 8 intake valves, valve job and 16 new valve seals. I seemed to have gotten lucky and it appears that the ring seal is good. Thanks to all who commented and offered...

Re: SBC 383. Blow by
Just got my blackstone oil analysis back. 0% water/ coolant in oil. Rules out a cracked cylinder i would think. Also, shows less than the average amount of fuel percent in the oil. Caveat, the preferred sample method is to run the engine for 15 minutes before collecting the sample. I couldn’t do thi...

Re: SBC 383. Blow by
will do. any suggestions to check for cracks? the motor is still in the car. If no cracks, I may pull the rods and pistons from below, hone the cylinders and re-ring. I don't want to spend money on this block; which is .040" over. If I am going to spend money I would rather start with a new Dar...

Re: SBC 383. Blow by
Pulled the intake today. A couple ports look like pulling oil from the valley. However- all the closed intake valves had a puddle of oil in the bowl and valve head. I am thinking the guides may be bad. Gonna pull the heads. Pics 030D2603-755F-41EA-8829-41A85F26FECA.jpeg 26B104D5-E3AE-4F73-A8AC-D9312...

Re: SBC 383. Blow by
Removed the carb today, looked down the intake runners. I can see where the bottom edge of the fel-pro 1205 gasket has raised up to where the printo-seal is visable. Also, oil is present on the floor of the intake. I have dimpled the floor with the tip of a 3/16th drill bit. Most of those divots hav...

Re: SBC 383. Blow by
Update. Flipped the breather and PCV around; pcv on driver side. Replaced the hose to catch can w/ clear reinforced hose. I can see an oil trail flowing up the hose to the catch can. Also, layed painters paper (thin)over valve cover (pcv) hole. When running it does not suck into the cover. It pushes...

Re: SBC 383. Blow by
Good advice! I have wondered if i am pulling oil from a crack. A couple areas were getting a little thin during the porting phase... the porter was stubborn! I am the guilty party.
