repair broken roll pin in oil ring groove of sbf 347 piston?

Post by talon »

Hello Gents

I was given a set of sbf KB 347 pistons/full floating chevy size wrist pins. 2 have a broken anti rotation pin that is in the oil ring groove. How difficult is it to replace these pins? - looks like it is a small pin that captures the oil rings and a larger dia. pin as back-up.

Are these pistons even worth the time. - Just a street/strip motor in planing stages.

Thanks Jim

I was just looking at a set I have here in the shop. If the pin is broken I guess there is a posability of two fixes. The first one, try using a small bit to snag the ID of the pin and see it will pull with the bit. The second is what i more than likely would try, drill a new hole in a different location and install a new pin.

Well the price is right since they were free, I would consider those hyperutetic pistons street performance items. With the long stroke and short rods and very limited skirts, a fragile combination.

Bottom line they are still cast pistons.
