hydraulic roller spring pressure ??

Post by jason snyder »

ok , i am building a 406 with a 237-245 , .600 - .600 lift hyd roller cam ...heads are brodix track1 ,, with bowls blended all the way through , and the pinch opened as far as i felt safe .. .050 wall ... ... intake is a heavily ported victor jr tall ... i think the rpm peak will be around 6300 or so .. any suggestions on spring pressures ?? the cam card has nothing ... i am using the howards lifters , not the high dollar type though ( anti pump up deals ) ... would 145 seat , and 400 nose be close ?

Hopefully not the lifters with the .700 wheel that have the enclosed wheels.

Check with Chris Straub as those lifters he rates I believe not over 230 duration.

If those are the Morel street lifter with the .700 wheel although not my first choice should be fine in this application

The comment from Chris about 230° was directed at a BB & was just pointing to a cam that would not need a ton of spring to control it more than an absolute degree at 050,, probably could have been worded better

A SB with less than 400lb max & preferably more in the 350 to 375lb range would be my choice with these lifters & I have done this a number of times without any issues I know of.

This is what I have gone by per say of Ed Morel

Excellent plan :)
The only thing I don't know is what Morel lifter is only $100 more than the street series
The 4602 & 4603 series are closing on $700 now so I am not sure what Howard's is using

Check them for sizing against an OEM flat tappet lifter, Does not sound good.
