BBC intake seats

Post by Guest »

I want to install 2.25 intake and 1.88 valves in a set of 781 heads, and my local machine shop say going 1.88 on exhaust may cut into water. He says you need to use a seat with about .030 on each side, to get enough meat to hold it. Is this true? Any thoughts?

Find a new machine shop. I have a set of those same heads from John Lingenfelter. they have 2.25 intake and 1.88 exhaust valves in them. If you get into the water jackets by cutting the seats, then you shouldn't be doing machine work on big block chevys. Just my thoughts though.

lugnut5, thanks for joining the forum
As for the BBC heads, it's much more likely they'll go into water if they installs seats than just opening to 1.88, which I think has zero risk.
