STREET 427 SMALL BLOCK
I am building a 427 small block for the street
-SBC 427 DART LITTLE M BLOCK
-MAHLE PISTON
-AFR 220CC ELIMINATOR 23*
-10.5 COMP RATIO WITH 72CC
-HOWARDS RETRO FIT ROLLER CAM
(247/253@.050"-108LSA )
-HYD.RETRO FIT ROLLER LIFTERS
-QUICK FUEL 850CFM
-1 3/4"HEADERS - X PIPE WITH DUAL FLOWMASTER 40 SERIES
-88 CAMARO WITH 5SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION
-3.70 REAR END
Let me know what you guys think about this setup

Re: STREET 427 SMALL BLOCK
It should be a nice strong combo for the street, but I might up the compression to 11 to 1 to make up for the 3.70 gear being a little on edge for the 220 CC runners in those heads!
You did not post the valve lift, but with those heads and even only .550" lift the heads will pass 300 cfm which should get you a easy 580 HP on a bad day if, note if, the manifold you run will flow that number which dependant on your cars weight means a somewhat reworked Victor single plane with its long runners for street use, or a much reworked duel plane with at least a 1/2" spacer under the carb!

You can cut a man's tongue from his mouth, but that does not mean he’s a liar, it just shows that you fear the truth he might speak about you!
Re: STREET 427 SMALL BLOCK
Thank you Mag 2555,
Valve lift with 1.6 rocker int .603/ext .619
1"spacer under the carb
Super single plane intake manifold
Do you think the comp ratio 10.5 is not enough for this combo?

Re: STREET 427 SMALL BLOCK
so use 1.7 on the intakes or 1.6in 1.5 ex you do not need ex lift just correct duration for head and header flow- and rev extension if necessary
an inverse radius profile would allow 4 degrees less duration with similar 200-300 valve opens and might be better with YOUR proposed compression
do get the compression and cam and rockers etc to match
tight quench is a must

Re: STREET 427 SMALL BLOCK
what I was thinking when I mentioned header flow
entire exhaust on street motor must be considered and cam will be different than an open header application
ask Joe for suggestions, he has been around that block more than once

What kind of mufflers do you recommend me for this combo ?

Re: STREET 427 SMALL BLOCK
I agree with Joe. Magnaflow for the mufflers. I would also up the compression ratio to around 11:1 and keep the quench around .035 to .040".

Re: STREET 427 SMALL BLOCK
This engine can use well a AFR 227 or 235.
I'd not set the quench at any less than .039 with that big bore and forged short skirt pistons.

Re: STREET 427 SMALL BLOCK
first you select your cam for the rpm range you want
then select the compression to match the cam
and then do it vice verse
otherwise you end up with too much cam and too much compression requiring too much converter and too low gears for whatever you mean by street
in other-words you can use a shorter cam with the compression you were thinking of and have a "torquier" ride"
or you can go the big cam big compression big converter route and wait for it to "come up on the cam"
no use going with the high top end route when running through the mufflers, so pick a rpm range
then select the compression to match the cam
and then do it vice verse

Which duration do you think is a good ballpark for a street torquer with this combo?wyrmrider wrote:first you select your cam for the rpm range you want

Re: STREET 427 SMALL BLOCK
what's the gear ratios in the trans
and how do you want to drive it
street cruiser or hot rod?
drive off from idle or rev the motor and dump the clutch
what manifold?
best to gather all the info asked for here and post back
do you have head flows?

perhaps joe will post also
