351 windsor pushrod qeustion

Post by brian261 »

I have a pushrod problem getting 3/8"to fit and have already had them clearance and welded up and has been a nightmare! I know u want the biggest and thickest pushrod but Im out of options. I run 300# on the seat and 900# open. My buddies run NHRA super stock and their mopars they cant get nothing in theres but 5/16" and run 315# on the seat and turn them 8300 and havent had any issues. What is the most you have seen people get away with with 5/16" .120 wall?

I have ran 650-660 open several times with 5/16" .105" Trend pushrods. A far cry from where you're at, but I don't think I'd try them with 900 over the nose...

If they are shaft rockers, the 11/32" pushrod is a good idea.

When you say you can't get them to fit, what's the problem.....rub a little, or just won't go?

they are shaft rockers 1.7 .....this is a N/A motor 800/825 283/299 at .50. My first trip to the track I went down the return road to warm it up and heard a noise so I pulled valve cover and one of the pushrods come out of the cup so upon futher investagation I found several of the pushrods rubing on the head. I already had them clearanced and welded up.

I talked to one someone here in Fl that makes pushrods and he said he has 300# on the seat in his mopar and turns his 9000 and hasnt had any issues...5/16" .120 wall....he has a mopar and runs NHRA class where they have to run cast iron heads and no room to put anything else in there

Well, you can only do what you can do.....but if I were going to run smaller pushrods, I would want to almost put it on a Spintron to see what's going on. Maybe you could engineer some loft in there....LOL

Look at the back of the rocker and make sure that the pushrod is not making contact there.

yeah i checked there and none of them are touching there.....pushrod is rubbin on the bottom of the pushrod slot and thus it forced the pusrod out of the cup....the one that came out of the cup was rubbing pretty good.

ok just wanted to update this thread as it may help out someone that is running a SBF TFS twisted wedge R head with Harland sharp shaft rockers. When they designed these shafts years ago the cams weren't as big as today and he said they have an issue once you go above .750" lift with the amount of angle on the cup with the pushrod at full lift... so they are taking my rockers back and making me some new ones. Very great customer service from them.

we did determined that the 3/8" pushrods weren't rubbing enough to cause any problems
