What did you think a "motor plate' was that compelled you to say yes?[/quote]

As I previously stated; I have a "motor plate", not a "mid plate." I guess it boils down to specifics.

I could completely see this- fords have that plate betweent the block and trans.

I should have worded my question differently.

Whatmade you think a "motor plate" mounted on the front of the block had any relevance to torque converter selection?

IMO you should have known they meant midplate. Terms are interchangeable.

block plate :) or fix the converter?

Yeah, I should have known but I didn't. Unfortunately, there are many instances and situations we, as humans, routinely face that we "should know" that we don't. Well for me anyway. Fortunately for you, my (or their) mistake hasn't cost you a dime. Thanks for the salt.

Believe it or not, Adam at A-1 decided it was actually his mistake and of course is going to fix the converter, where I do not intend to go with a mid-plate anytime soon. Sent it back yesterday.

good converter shops
there are so many charlatans out there

Yeah, I have been using A-1 converters since the mid 90s, and the new owners are doing a fine job also.
