Ramjet 502 intake

Post by tt 383 »

Does anyone have any experience to share with the limits, stock or altered/ported in NA or FI application's. Input like cubes, cam size, throttle body size, exhaust, application.... appreciated thanks.

I helped dyno this engine. It is 504 inches I believe and it was all done by 6500 and I believe it was due to the intake design. It also had some pretty interesting cylinder to cylinder issues below 4000 rpm however, that may be in part that it was over-cammed. I think the intake will work fine in an application that is cammed to make peak power by 6000-6400 and shifted by 6500-7000 at the most. The intake on this engine was mildly ported/cleaned up. That's as much as I know about it.

Thank you 900, I am not married to the intake... I happened to find that Edelbrok makes a Pro Flo for BBC may be shorter to boot. Been searching on that for the past day. Basically looking for something that would be easy/cheap to install and not limit 509-555 cubes for a mostly street deal. May still use the tall deck and the pro flo may fit under the hood with needed spacers.

I just used a pro-flo on a 1972 Monte Carlo. It made good power. 470 hp at the rear wheels and 480 ft/lbs on 91 octane out of a 460 inch BBC. It is a mild cam deal - 231/239 @ .050" and is all done by 6000 though. For an application like this I'm not sure if the Ramjet would be any worse or better.

I didn't take a photo of it installed but one nice thing about the pro-flo is that it cleared the stock hood.

If you don't mind me asking, what heads and how good was the exhaust? I am building this with an eye towards FI eventually, maybe 3-4 yrs down the road so not looking for a max hp intake... maybe twin tc76, s366, or the ever popular gt45. I just want to make sure the intake is not a big restriction but its got to fit too. Have thought about a tunnelram with a top and machine the front for throttle body. That would give the plenum volume these pieces dont seem to have. This is for a 71 vette vert, got a 5 inch cowl hood so i have some room.

You'll just shake your head.

The heads were Brodix Race-Rite OVAL port (the intake is small rectangular) and the exhaust is a 3" mandrel bent Flowmaster kit with DynoMax turbo mufflers. The chassis dyno used was a Mustang too, no artificial Dynojet numbers.
