Tommy boy made another hook.

Engine seems good, broke driveshaft.

Here's a video of the pull.

Hook #3 tomorrow.

New driveshaft with larger yokes.

Just like to see it make a no broken parts pull.

What would be a good target MPH for tire speed on this type of truck ?

To start with set the rears to about 40# and the front at about 16#. Can't know on speed without knowing type of sled and current sled speeds. You'll want to set the gearing up where the motor will rev about 5-600 past peak horsepower going down the track.

Thanks, rear @ 45 now and 22 left front 25 right front.

Got rev limiter at 8100, it makes peak HP at 7200 ish.
He was peddling it in the video.

Need to see it down track to get an idea on the set-up I think.

If all goes well tomorrow we may pull to a different one sat.
It's an IMO sanctioned pull.

Well farthest pull yet, but broke a U joint again.

Tommy boy and the chassis seem to be good.

Think we may have found the trouble with the U joint problem.

Well, an up date for those interested.

Got drive train sorted and made a couple pulls without breaking, but the sled was guttin the engine down track. Kinda just lights out all of a sudden.
Fuel delivery was the problem. Took my big port regulator off the Nova and tried it and it almost doubled fuel delivery through the bowls.

Then it started spinning out against the rev limiter (8300 rpm) at the end 2 hooks in a row Friday night. So Sat. morning ( after getting home at 3 AM from Friday pull) we took the weight on up to the 6200 LB limit at a Midwest Pullers Association pull up at Inianola, IA. Sat night. Added 230Lbs in the weight box under front bumper and took a few things off the back to help weight split more.

Got put in their pro street class cause of the 4 link on the truck, so we were badly out gunned in the engine department. Class allows 475 cubes and I could smell Q16 in several. But, Tommy Boy did ok. Got 5th out of 8 trucks. Got first hook and it still spinning out, so he turned it down and re pulled. He lined it up on a shinny line down the track and got 11 more feet and it finally started to load the engine at the end. Pulled it down to 7100-7200 rpm at the end. 288 feet for Tommy boy 319 won the class.

So now the plan is to lock the front differential and see how that does.

Here's a video of the second hook up at the MPA pull Sat. If you pull trucks,.. scrutinize the pull.

You know your making good power when your trailer doesn't need wheels. :D

Well, got Tommy boy running decent, and got the truck sorted I think.
Got a first place over at Perry, KS. Just 6 trucks in the class, but 3 were ones that had been winning.
Loose track probably helped the small cubes out.

Here's a video of the pull.

Then, after Perry we closed the front end up to help traction since it had spun out at the end for several pulls.
Then last night the sled pulled the engine back down through the rpm range at the end of the pull.
Guess locking the front differential helps. LOL
Better track too.

Here's a video of last nights pull.

So now it's getting feed air from outside the engine compartment, and going to Q 16 for a pull tomorrow.
Figured since it gutted the engine at the end it's time to start adding power.

Truck pullers, see what things you see that can be improved on.

No velocity profile. Didn't probe them, just flowed one for future reference.

No port energy calcs either. Figure the dyno will tell us about the port energy. LOL

Planning on improving these heads in the future?

Well, went to Mercer, MO. for a IAMO pull on Monday. Had to pull in Pro street cause of 4 link. Some good trucks in that bunch.

Still got 3 trucks behind him, and it's still guttin the engine at the end.
Here's a video of it.

Thought it was a bit rich on the Q 16 and wanted to make another test hook, so we called over to the pull at Diagonal, IA and they said we could probably still get there in time, so we headed out.

Went down 2 jets sizes and made decent pull and was 1 of 4 trucks to make it to the pull off.

Video of that hook.

Broke tranny in the pull off. :(

Tommy Boy been takin some abuse for a bunch used stuff thrown together.
Tommy Boy probably longs for the old days of drag racing it used to have . :D

Randy, Because you stated they were ported by someone else I figured at some point you would want to work your magic on them.
