EQ head porting???

Post by stn2racing »

I gather the EQ 350i is a better head then the dart 180. What would be your suggestions for porting, plan to run 2.02 intake valves bit not sure yet as far as exhaust side. 4bbl, Victor jr intake, 5/16 mile dirt oval.

With great porting work the most flow your going to yank thru a 2.02" valve is about 325@ .725" lift, if you get the Exh to flow 210 cfm and run a 1 3/4 Header your Exh to Intake ratio will be a nice 74% or better.

A average build will use about 310 cfm out of that 325 and make you some 610 hp with 11 to 1 comp in non limited from.

You are getting those numbers out of EQ iron heads?

Does that EQ head call for a raised runner Intake?
So your allowed porting in your class?

Rule only calls for a cast iron head with 23 degree valve angle. What would be the ideal runner size? I figure nothing more than 190 cc since it's a relatively small track and I am limited as far as cubic inches and compression ratio.

How about a vortec head? Cheap and with a little work can make good torque. On a RPM limited class I would think torque is where the on track advantage will be, provided you can hook the car up.

According to one of the industries iron head stock rules porting master Brezinski those EQ350i heads with a 2.02 valve and his special class rules porting for dirt tracks that head hits the wall at about 240 cfm @.600 lift. Talk of 310-325 cfm intake flows with this head and a 2.02 valve seem like a real "stretch"! "stretch usually = "bench racing bullshit" !

If not limited to the ch350i by rules, there are better heads to use. I'd recommend the vortec bowtie head.
Automotive Machining, cylinder head rebuilding, engine building. Can't seem to quit #-o

The EQ vortec heads for use with older intake pattern is also an option(EQ350H WITH 2.02/1.60). I'd love the vortec bowtie but they went out of my cost range with their price change lately. I looked at our rules and they allow any cast iron 23 degree head. Also considered DART 180 OR 200cc but i gather thats not ideal?

According to Brzezinski the Dart 200 platinum iron is the best 200 head. Sounds ideal to me?
