I am running a aeromotive fuel pump driven off my dry sump pump with a flexible drive cable from waterman and am curious what people are using for grease to lubricate the cable?
I spoke to waterman tech and they told me grease .. Nothing special ...
I believe when I ordered the cable from them I was told it's outsourced to another company who might have some different grease suggestions .. Anyone know who makes them for waterman?

Re: waterman fuel pump drive cable lubrication
Since it is an oversized speedometer cable the old standby is something graphite based. Good question though. I wonder what new lubes might work without being sloppy.
Ya know, if it is currently sticky you might want to pull it out and do a cleaning.
Google speedometer cable lube. All kinds of stuff.

Re: waterman fuel pump drive cable lubrication
I I wasn't real encouraged from watermans response to my question of a good lubricant. Initially my main concern was compatibility, some greases when mixed don't play well together. Waterman tech couldn't tell me what was in there as shipped, that's why I wanted to find out who made it for them. I guess I'll have to try and call them again and get more info.
Given what a 12' flexible drive cable costs I want the best grease money can buy, preferably compatible with what's in there. If I have to clean out what's in the liner and on the cable, I really would prefer to do it once.
The cable routing puts it between the headers and block, about a 1" gap, and the cable being nearly 7/8". The cable has the good corrugated heat resistant aluminum sleeve over a silicone sleeve with the cable housing inside. Still it's almost in contact with one header tube and close to a couple more. It's got to get pretty toasty in there.
I've run the cable as flat as I can through this heat zone in an effort to keep the grease from liquefying and running away.
I am fairly confident graphite isn't going to mix with what's in there now.
Thanks for the response

There might be an app for that.

Google control cable lube. Boat guys have a lot to say on the matter.
How about a metal shield between the headers and cable? Kind of like used to be done with starters. All you need is an air gap between the two

Disc brake synth wheel bearing grease.

Right now I have http://www.thermalcontrolproducts.com/i ... ader-wrap/ around the ceramic coated header tubes in proximity to the cable assembly. The cable casing in the heat zone first has a layer of http://www.thermalcontrolproducts.com/i ... iresleeve/ over the casing then a layer of http://www.thermalcontrolproducts.com/i ... -sleeving/ over the casing and firesleeve.Dave Koehler wrote: How about a metal shield between the headers and cable? The flex drive cable was built with these heat sleeving's, as suggested by Waterman when I ordered it. The silica header wrap I added for a small degree of additional protection, probably at the expense of the ceramic coating underneath it.

Mobil Infinitec 152

This grease looks impressive .. just not easily available, and then only in large quantities.

Spoke to waterman today, turns out they use delo ep2 in all there cables. A lithium complex grease compatible with the calcium sulphonate thickeners in the amsoil GWRCR-EA synthetic water resistant grease I chose to use this time.
The delo ep2 was not blue anymore after only a few hundred miles. I cleaned it out of the casing and off the drive cable before putting in the amsoil grease. Let's see if the amsoil grease holds up better ...
