Shop drawing with some illustration for explanation:

-since hot air flows faster than cold, the exposed roof in section 3, having water jacket underneath, is designed to increase scavenging. (red line/no water jacket, blue line/water cooled exhaust vapor)

The 'loudspeaker shape' of the port's midsection gives these engines their distinctive signature sound. (section 2)
