GM Iron Phase info needed

Post by cv67 »

Hello
I picked up what I believe are a set of Phase 2s.
Can anyone point me to any specs...cc chamber runner size any type of flow #
Having them cleaned and checked out so havent gotten there yet.

Cant find any info on the web on these.
Nice looking combustion chamber considering how old they are

If they arent too far gone plan on going through them picking them up some maybe throwing a shortblock underneath if its worth it.
Old school solid flat cam type deal.

Off memory, 185cc intake ports, 64 cc chambers. Induction hardened exhaust seats, 2.02" / 1.6"valve seats. Dated design but work up really nice. Expect to do some work to really get some power out of them. Thanks, Charlie

I have only ported two sets. Still have them. I have never had them on the bench stock. With early 90's porting 2.055"/ 1.6" valves a guess of 200 +cc intake flow was 282 / 200. I have posted pics of them before but doubt I have those pics now. Heads are in storage. I have seen them crack from racing but they are much thicker and durable than stock. I would say if they have a weakness it is water around the exhaust. The stock bowtie exhaust is small and with some work pulls good air. It doesn't need to be huge unless the rpm or cubes are very high. Thanks, Charlie

Half tempted once they are done to throw together a shortblock under it..something old school GMish appearing

Older grind Solid flat tappet (yes) plenty of compression just a basic have fun with motor;somthing kinda ratty and not effficient
Have a new machinist that "sounds" like they are working with me on price we shall see. My old guy retired and most the "name" shops all send thier stuff out to them anyway; all I hear are upsale pitches, it gets old...then they keep the parts for 2 months
Suggestions on CR and cam appreciated.

Gonna keep the 2.02 intakes dont want to pour too much into them, doing all guides wether they need it or not just due to age
If I saw 240-260 int and around 200+-Id be happy

Something somebody could paint orange and pull off a stock like appearance despite headers.

Phase II Bowties start out at 64 cc chamber, the earlier ones were 67ccs. There is plenty of iron to work with when you port them, I have seen published 202 intake flows of around 270.
So much to do, so little time...

Owned and ported a set of phase 2's, flowed one chamber and got 262 int, 223 exh. Propelled a 3400 pound Camaro to mid 10's on a 406. Many, many porting hours, obviously in the wrong places on the intake ports.
