Got my used Ti valves yesterday... shipped in a Del West box... the instructions on the box say use a beryllium copper seat or another softer deal... what say you?

Most BeCu seats are huge. They're only practical in the race heads which have the extra aluminum in there to accept them. Maybe there exists a smaller diameter, smaller depth version, but those I've seen would be too large for the heads I would be using.

I was then told, "Are you going to be running 500 miles at 9,000 RPMs? That's where the BeCu seats are required. Your application doesn't need them. Just run on iron seats."

Personally I couldn't run 5 miles @ 9 rpm's.... :D

Thanks Jack....

The copper seats are more for the exhaust side as the ti is lousy at transferring heat to the guides and seat, the copper sucks the heat out.

On uncoated ti valves they may reduce wear.

You can call performance alloy and have them make you some moldstar 90 exhaust seats.
It's a copper beryllium replacement that is supposed to be superior.

The GM LS7/9 used powdered metal seats with their coated Ti Del West valves. Cu Berylium is very hazardous and breathing or getting chips into your body can really mess you up.

I stopped using BC seats and started using nickel bronze IIRC. If I think of the name of the company I bought them from ill post it. The NB seats machined better and didn't produce the hazardous things that BC does.

Just thought of it.

Kibblewhite machine or something like that. It's defiantly Kibblewhite.

What say me? Me say that if the supplier recommends that you install Beryllium Copper seats, than you do that. OR call them and inquire about using alternative materials. Much more reliable than asking a bunch of us doofaces on the internet . . . . . . .

Nodular iron, bronze or CuB or another softer metal... at least that's what Del West sez...

Pretty sure Del west sells the ms90 seats

Performance alloy makes the ms90, for injection molding applications, but they actually have a valve seat department, they will make the seats to your specs.
