Holley/Ford gurus.... Does this casting mean anything to you?

Post by nickpohlaandp » Thu Oct 26, 2017 1:00 pm

I've searched around on the web to see if I can decipher what this main body is. It's a Holley something, and it has a Ford P/N on it that would indicate that it's from a 1968 vehicle. I'm just trying to find out some more information on it. CFM, what it could've come from, etc? Any info you might have would be appreciated. Thanks

In case the pics don't show up the casting marks look like:

C8CF-9510-AA
LIST-1174 (Might be List 4174)
864

In 68 on a Ford I will take a guess at a 735 cfm Carb.

Likely off a 390 motor!

That List number is actually 4174. That carb came off of a 1968 1/2 428 Mustang Cobra jet, with automatic trans.. It's probably a 735 CFM carb, judging from the stock main sizes listed: pri= #66, sec=#79. This is info from my old 1975 Holley parts and specs manual. Norm/CFS

Is the main body by itself worth anything to speak of, or would I need to have the entire carb for it to have any value?

LOL! What would be a fair price? I was going to use it to build a carb out of, but when I saw the Ford castings on it I decided to look into it before I go any further. I have other main bodies.

Does it have the skirted (Ford truck) primary-sided boosters?

I believe so. It looks like part of the booster has been milled off on the top? I can get a better pic if that'd help.

The booster should flare out at the bottom. See the attached picture. The primary side is the skirted booster, the secondary side is a down-leg.

Quick poly blast and it looks better. I'll do a better job tomorrow.

That's the style. Those 735 Holleys were very flexible carbs. I ran one that came of my dad's 428CJ (actually a 427 side oiler stroked to 454 cubic inches) on the 351C in my Pantera.

Sweet. No I don't know what to do. Maybe I'll put it on my desk as a conversation piece. Too bad I don't have the whole thing.

As dan said they work well. I use a C9AF-9510-U (list 4609) in place of my 750vs body, dropped pri main jets from 70 to 67 to get it nice for my use.
Mid 80's iirc Ford did a 580/600?cfm vs with AD boosters. Idle screws in the thicker than normal base plate. With a few mods those carbs are fantastic on smaller cube and taller geared stuff.
Craig.
