"Clear" alcohol free 92 octane premium gas

Post by rfoll » Sun Oct 29, 2017 10:50 am

This gasoline has recently showed up at 2 gas stations nearby for about $4.00/ gal. Is there any advantage to using this in terms of power and knock resistance? Without the alcohol it would seem like the fuel would have a slightly higher BTU. One of the local racers swears by it, but then he told me it was 97 octane, tainting his opinion somewhat.

Better fuel economy is about all you'll see. It's normally at pumps for "collector" cars and small engines.

there is sooooo much interweb BS about 90% fuels. I run 93 10% junk in my 11.8 SBC and no issues at all. also run junk 87+10% in ALL my lawn stuff, never any problems.....flame on!

93 would be cheaper if they'd stop making 87 and 89. And a lot of modern cars would get better fuel economy to boot.

I have an older riding mower that quit running well...found all the fuel hoses hard as a rock and carb internals corroded...

I never had an issue either and called bs...but now...not so sure...sure seems like the ethanol had its way on my stuff..

Why do they need to have 89? We have 91 oct. in MN that's ethanol free.

I could not agree more. Alcohol blend is scapegoat for a lot of maladies.

91 octane non ethanol is readily available here in western NY state for 10-75 cents more a gallon than 93 octane E10....I use non ethanol in small engines and my street bikes...I never had any performance issues from the E10,but do notice an increased level of corrosion in older carb float bowls..So I use non ethanol in those engine..
