How much power can I make from 260 CI

I am thinking about a class that I have raced in the past but it is limited to 260 CI when using forced induction. I would have a host of options regarding different engines but cost and complexity comes into it. To be competitive I am looking at around 1000 hp at around 7500 rpm and would like to be able to run AV for fuel. So far the options I have thought about are going to the Toyota 2jz, 4 rotor Rotary, or destroke a GM ls 4.8 l. Any of these seem possible?

Yes its possible. Smokey Yunick made 1000 horsepower from a 209 inch Chevy V8 for Indy in about 1970.

All of those will do it with work. I'd lean towards the 4.8 - the most displacement you have the least hard you have to work everything, and more headbolts are always good. 2JZ is going to be more stressed but should still do it. 4-rotors are not production in anything ever - you're looking at around 20k by the time you have the longblock done, who knows what equivalency factor whatever racing org is giving, and tuning tends to be something a lot of people shy away from.

They're making 300bhp in road race trim from turbo-charged 636cc I4s. This shouldn't be a problem.

Take the four rotor engine off your list... granted it is peanuts to make 700+hp before turbos, but you're also looking at about $50k just for the block.

How much can it weight and how large can the package be?

If you can destroke the 4.6L 4-valve DOHC modular Ford V8 from 90mm stroke and 281 CID to 80mm stroke and slightly under 260 CID, it's easy to get a low compression, hugely well flowing heads, and a lot of aftermarket parts. Then bolt two twin-scroll turbos to it and it's going to make a lot of power.

Come on guys, cost dominates the question from the OP.

There are countless paths to make a modest 1000 hp from 260 cid. How much money is he prepared to spend on that quest?

I would destroke the LS 4.8. Hands down. Put twins on it. Been done before, or atleast a 4.8 have been way more than 1.000 hp.

The bigger you go, the less boost you need so the less octane you need.

1000 HP from 2 litres has been done but 1000HP from 4 litres is half the stresses.
More cylinders is better.

At that rpm peak, you’ll want 4 valves. If you’re not limited by rules, you’ll want 4 valves per cylinder. Makes for a much wider power band.
