Anyone know who is making Jegs "Made in USA" oil pumps? Looking for something for a stock type sbc overhaul.

I would be willing to bet Melling. If you look closely in some of the picture they have the Melling numbers cast into them.

You sure are correct. After a closer look i see a 55 on the pump.

I just put one in my last motor. Kinda pissed me off because it’s a Melling. The old ones were totally different they were thicker so much so I had to grind it to get it to clear the main studs. Much better product.

Was that one of the ones that were supplied with 3 different pressure relief springs?

So are these reboxed Mellings products, or built to Jegs specs like Walmarts name brand products?

And here it comes..

Any other suggestions than melling for a 250hp 305 chevy overhaul?

I've heard enough of the negative on today's mellings.

I like my Milodon pump for my 377 SBC. Standard volume high pressure. For just a standard rebuild I would just get a standard pressure.

I've heard complaints about Milodon as well. Basically people paying $40-$50 dollars more only to reveal it's an overpriced Melling pump as well.

No, different casting. Mine is not a Melling. I did take mine apart and do some deburr on it and clean it up some more. Found a few chips inside. That's SOP for me with oil pumps so it's not a huge deal.

And I lost a really good engine due to the Melling supplied pressure relief spring fracturing. It’s your typical China crap. Better off with a 150,000 mile junkyard OEM factory installed used spring. Or consult McMaster or other source for a true quality part.
I’ve heard of this issue on numerous Detroit brand engines.

Yes, I think most of the private-label oil pumps currently on the market are manufactured by Melling. Hoof used to have a lot of that business when they were around, but no longer.

Isn't Elgin still in the hunt?

I have always run stock BBC pumps on SBC with no issue, 7500 rpm eight mile nitrous stuff, it requires the specific shaft and pick up.

I have a stock BBC pump on my stepbrothers 355, been working good for 3 years now. Everyone has a different theory with oil systems and when set up correctly most of them do work well. Kind of funny though how someone can have trouble and swear that a (example) high volume pump sucked the pan dry. Someone else won't use nothing but high volume pumps without issue ever.
