Used to cut many name brand new ones, as part of the Auto 1-2 technology program I taught where doing an oil change and service was required. After looking at product we would discuss advertising and it's affect on purchases and critical thinking skills at the lower levels. We always judged quality pf product and advertising quality. Wix always seemed to be on top quality wise but Fram almost always won the advertising part. Many of the young "gearheads" had heard of Fram but not too many had heard of Wix. Go figure.

This is one example of you get what you pay for. Seeing how inexpensive filters are and how vital, it's worth the couple bucks for a good quality filter.
That's true.
Here's a couple of tests:

Anything above stock oil pump or if the bypass is blocked I wouldn't use a fram, I know a guy where the fram came apart and clogged up his bearing passages. Killed his $$$$$ engine of course. I like Wix, Jomar and other good filters.

x2 on blocked bypasses, due to clearance have to run that tiny Wix, dont stand on it til the oil is warm and thinned some.
Seems the ad giants always win, remember when you didnt hear much of Comp

If you have a blocked bypass I'd strongly consider an 51061r wix filter. It has a higher micron rating and will flow more. Since it lets bigger particles through so more frequent oil changes are a good idea.

Carquest aren't made by wix anymore. After Advance Auto bought CQ they switched. I was disappointed.

a guy i worked with worked at fram. he told me the fram filters were called the "good to go filters" and put into a fram box and logo ie the ones that failed tests that were being specked to be branded for one of the big three or such.

Yep I know this is an old post, but it is at top of list, and I have must have missed this bullshi$ response.. But here goes,You know the op's street car is a 1000hp sbc that dips into the 8's right? He is not asking bout a 79 c10 to go pick up a half cord of wood.. As someone else posted later the real car guys know a fram filter that weighs about 8oz soaking wet is not adeqaute for a riding lawn mower..

maybe you should have reread the bullshit statement and thought for a min... I said they SHOULD be ok for street use, not WOULD be ok the op had already bought the filters so you have two choices use em or throw them in the trash, I've had more than one street engine come into my shop with a knock and the filters were always the cheap one's, like someone else posted the cheapies will collapse inside.

Filter wars are ridiculous without rock solid test data to evaluate the contestants. Is anyone here up to the expense of that testing?
