One would think that the Petro. corporations designed and built the quadrajet? Had a 68 c-10 327 turbo 350 373 R&P, then a 72 c-10 350 C.I. 350 turbo i think appx. a 3.5 gear. Neither one of these trucks would get more than 10 MPG no matter how you drove them. :x

Your economy problem wasn't from the nature of Quadrajet carbs. I have a 71 C20 I bought in 1981, and all of the small and big blocks would get over12 mpg highway driving using a QJ Carb. The 402 with 3.73 gears got nearly 14 at 65 mph on the freeway. Of course, with the 11' camper and a boat in tow it got 8 mpg going over Mt. Hood.
So much to do, so little time...

That's not very good, should do 8 or better, I'd think.

My 1982 29" Class A , 454, 4.56 gear got 5 to 6 mpg towing when I first got it. I never really used it not towing but it got 5 to 6 with an open trailer and 1 car, and got the same with a 32' Enclosed trailer with 2 cars. I put a 4.10 gear in it. It didn't help any with fuel, but made it struggle to take off. The transmission also ran quite a bit hotter. I put the 4.56 back in it, and built a 4L80E trans. I used a PCM from an old mechanical pump diesel pickup. It just used throttle and rpm inputs from the engine. After the trans change I got at high at 8mpg with the open trailer, and 6.5 to 7 with the big trailer and 2 cars.
I would think a Class C with a 350 and no trailer should get quite a bit better.
I used to be a people person, but people ruined it.

I had a 26' B+ on 1 ton Chev. van chassis last year 6 L. Went on a 5000 mile road trip out west through the mountains it averaged about 9.7.
2006 so it was a bit more aero I suppose.
