The 041x heads are worth a few more HP, but even more rare and pricey to acquire.. But even so, pulling a valve cover would immediately expose it as not being a 462 if the rules are explicit on only allowing that casting #.

Larry Meaux has posted some dyno #'s he got on SS motors with various double-hump heads. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=29813&start=300

The only OEM head rules are no porting and 1.94" valve, and no Vortec. the only non OEM allowed is the the World 1.94" SR.

041X is 2.02"?

No, it's 1.94 like the rest. The world heads will probably outperform them all if you truly don't do any porting. They are listed as 171cc which is bigger than any of the OEM heads (besides vortec) that I can recall. Might be missing some though.

Chamber is bigger though. Can you mill heads to get C/R back up?

Yes, can mill. I'll see what he has in his parts bin and tell him what I've learned here.
Thanks.

Another plus to concider about the SRs over any stocker casting is better balanced ports flow wise port to port and they flow better up .500" lift then any head but a Vortex head even without a valve job to enhance the flow more!

Some of the core shift issues the factory casting have can leave you with 5 normal flowing ports and 3 really sub par ports on average, or even worse yet a 4/4 ratio of normal to bad!

How many stock heads can you afford to get fully flow tested on all 16 ports, just to end up with a overall good set?

I think the 461 has more squish band on plug side .
A good test is worth a thousand opinions.

The 041 is the way to to, with the carb your using. You should be able to find some, there’s a fellow in Cumberland that can hook you up. Let me know if you need more info.

Aren't the old -461x heads about 170 cc's intake port size?

But I forget if they come in 1.94" or 2.02" intake valves?

And right, the old -461 head is a true dual quench type head with quench flats on both sides of the chambers. Over by the sparkplug and the big flat on the other side.

The 305HO, -601 heads are about the same, but they can have 1.84"/1.50" valve chambers as small as 53 cc's and 160 cc intake ports! Great heads for a smaller engine!
