Re: Rod alignment
Just to define what I'd consider a straight up rod, it's when the centerline of the rod bearing shell is exactly lined up with the centerline of the wrist pin bore. Anything else is an offset rod as far as I'm concerned.

Some, mostly drag race, some short track.

Re: Rod alignment
thanks for the excellent pix bobalattie!
and nice alignment
whoever can't see the difference either needs an eye doctor or is simply not being honest
nobody ever said the offset build won't run & run strong but which is better

Re: Rod alignment
My goodness, this is like a political argument.
Elwood, go back and look at the pictures I posted of regular rods in the same scenarios. There's no difference between the offset Molnar rods and some of the other brands that I use on a regular basis.
Once that's done, tell me what happens when one rod takes up the .020-.025" side/clearance slack and then doesn't run centered on the pin.
There's two arguments going on at once:
1. That non "Centralign" rods won't keep the rods centered on the pins. I have proved that to be a false statement.
2. Rods that aren't centered lose horsepower. Again, tell me what happens when the rod moves over due to clearance.
Tell ya what, someone build an engine, and swap out the rods with the same dyno, exact same weather conditions, same operator, same rod length, same rod weight, and same bearing, and post the results. Then we'll do some talking.

Re: Rod alignment
Small end and rod centre line in centre of piston and pin- some advantage can be had, I can see that (the blind man said).
However- I am With Brent here: Isn't there a "large" variation regarding bore spacing in Blocks and placement og rod- throws on cranks? Stock VS aftermarket, years, day of Production..... And I cannot see HOW the makers of the "Centralign" rods know how out- of centre YOUR combination is?
OR AM I COMPLETELY WRONG: is the degree of off- centre rodthrow VS bore a industry standard, making it possible to fabricate a onesizefitsall Centralign rod?
I might be missing- a lot as usual- here... Were, BTW, Brent's small end VS piston/ pin centered; pics posted? Just Wonder. Admit I didn't check how this lined up during my last engine Assembly.
