Is there a better cam?

Post by Racer18 »

I am using a 246/252@ 050 cam ground on a 106lsa. .577 intake lift with 1.6 rocker, .544 ex lift with 1.5. 355 ci, 6.250 rods, 49cc dart heads, 3cc domes. Runs good, won a ton of races with it. Time for a freshen. I would like to make more top end power, but dont want to kill low end. I run it 6800-7200 rpms. Any suggestions?

Define low end. At that RPM you should have a 5500 converter so anything below that is moot (for lack of a better word).

You should probably define what kind of racing you're doing first.

From his cylinder head thread, I assume it's a 2bl limited short track deal?
If that is the case, to answer both of the threads, it's all gonna be in the valve job and valve train! Lol
Angle mill to the max, a modern valve job and similar events but about .150 or so more lift.
Then there's the short block.................

Before you take it apart, first tighten up the valve lash to about .014" set cold and try a few laps.
Do you like that effect. ?? If so change to this cam Isky 201547 .look it up.
Be sure to degree it in at a 102 intake C/L. It will have more top end without getting too carried away. It is 10deg bigger @.050" and a bit more lift. same 106LSA.

It's already apart, actually it was pretty tired. 8 seasons on it.NO JOKE! I built it, raced it myself for 3 years, sold out, its been through 3 other owners, current owner called to ask if I would freshen it/ update it. Oil pan has never been off. There are alot of 400+ cubic inch engines in the class now. I just want to see if we can compete with this one!

What engine are you using?

I ask because of a 6.25" long rod in a 355 is all.

I assume it isn't a stock block Gen. I SBC, right?

Or can you put a 6.25" long rod in a 3.25" stroked 355" SBC? Don't think so, but don't know either...

It all depends on the RPM you're coming off the corner.
If it's below 4,000rpm, we normally go with a 248/252 on a 105.
If it's 4,500rpm or above, we go with a 253/256 on a 106.

9.2"? Surely this is a stock 9.025" deck block, hence a 1.035" CH for zero deck?

It is a 1" ch, zero deck@ 9.00. 1550 bob weight with steel rods. Outran a lot of 412-415 ci engines, but they have stepped up their game since we last ran this combo.
