Street Cam sbc
Just getting ready to assemble a 355 sbc with rhs 220cc intake runner heads 64cc comb chamber
Edelbrock performer rpm dual plane intake, 1-5/8 headers, (no carb yet)
What’s a good Cam for a street motor. Going in an el Camino. No drag racing just want good power/torque. Have overdone it with too large of Cam before. Haven’t built a street motor for 20 years, only race. With all the new ramp designs surely I should be able to go bigger than what was normal back in the nineties. Any advice?

Re: Street Cam sbc
the great thing is, with newer lobes you dont have to go bigger than back then. you can run the same or smaller and make more power.
Re: Street Cam sbc
Knowing weight (an ElKay can be 4,000#?), rear gear, transmission gearing and if AT, the converter stall would be what most cam guys would want to know.

RHS 220cc, is a pretty big head for a 355cid street engine. What RPM are you planning on turning it?

Re: Street Cam sbc
Tried editing post but that didn’t work.
I have a set of aluminum afr 220’s and a set of iron world products 200 cc runner(and a set of dart 165’s but ick)
Basically I’m looking for some advice as to what is possible as I’ve not worked with these new setups.
I remember years ago I used a .488 lift Cam in a 327 and it was aweful until 3500 rpm.
Car has a overdrive trans with a lower first gear, willing to install a higher rear gear but want highway cruising ability. Car has been lightened as far as it can be (inner fenders, alum intake, alum wheels, alum radiator etc. )

I know as much as I can learn and try to keep an open mind to anything!
If I didn't overthink stuff I wouldn't be on speedtalk!

I just put one of my small hydr roller cams in my boat engine. Is this the RPM band you're looking for?
It's a 355ci SBC with 10:1, ported 492 heads, Performer RPM, and Holley 600.
RPM---TQ--BHP
3200--436--266
3400--443--287
3600--445--305
3800--444--321
4000--443--337

Re: Street Cam sbc
Possibly even a little lower rpm to get decent drive ability at Part throttle at 55mph and around 2000 rpm
Re: Street Cam sbc
The seat duration on this cam is 264/268 @.006"
That's shorter then most stock cams.
You're not going to find a cam that makes more power at 2,000rpm.

Re: Street Cam sbc
If you want to make effective use of overdrive then you DO want a cam like Cam King is suggesting. It will work very well.
Re: Street Cam sbc
With matching size eyebrow pistons, can I safely get to .550 lift with 2.02 valves?
Or does this type of Cam ramp up the speeds so interference is Less likely

Re: Street Cam sbc
Mike, can you email me a price for the Cam /lifters from you.
Also is it possible to do a flat tappet Cam (non roller)
