Bore prep for 1.5/1.5/4.0 rings?

Post by travis »

Does anything different need to be done to run these skinny rings? Hypereutectic pistons, not a race engine if that matters. Block is ready for final hone...would you use a 400 grit flex hone, or ???

What honing process do u normally use?? If it has been working, meaning is the engine sealing up, use it.

Those are not skinny rings by any means.

Skinny rings...?
Ford Motor Company used that ring set on all O.E.M. production 5.0L engines and 5.8L engines in the late 80's and all through the 90's; then went to completely different engines.
Whatever the finish ... be sure to use a deck plate.

Skinny compared to what I’m used to I guess I should have said.

So nothing different than any other moly ring set for a strictly street motor? That’s good to know.

1.5mm is only about .003" less than a 1/16 ring, same with the 4mm oil ring thickness being slightly thinner than 3/16". 1mm 1mm 2.8mm is a common size I use nowadays. My opinion is the material of the ring makes finish more critical than the thickness of it, and talking normal automotive/motorcycle stuff here, not huge industrial nor small pinned 2 stroke stuff.
