Just spoke to AFR Tech. Tech said the 220 head on a 4.0 bore only lost 2-3 c.f.m. at high lift over the 4.1xx bore. Also said the speed of airflow was increased over the older 225 head. Smaller CSA and higher speed of air and CFM flow over all lift points.

I had a simular experience with some AFR205 heads on a 4.030 bore, 2.08" intake , this was the year 2011. Maybe there stuff is a little better today? AFR claimed 330cfm on 4.155". This was a 331cid build solid roller in a 3000lb fox street/strip car made 470rwhp spinning to 7,800rpm. Power never really nosed over we just did not want to break the fragile stock block that only was cro treated.

Lift. Intake. Exhaust
0.05 33.9 26.8
0.1 68.1 62.3
0.15 108 88.6
0.2 147 112.7
0.25 182.6 138.2
0.3 209.9 161.1
0.35 234.5 180.9
0.4 258.4 197.1
0.45 275.5 213.5
0.5 282.6 222.3
0.55 291.3 226.5
0.6 297.4 229.5

0.7 309.2 232.9

The only replacement for displacement is RPM!

I think in it was around 2014 when the newer casting came out. The older 205 head flowed in the 310 range at 700 lift. Not sure what AFR claimed at that time. Some shops have AFRs numbers and some are off by a bunch. Who know what to believe.

Ahh that makes sense that the castings changed as technology evolved as it always does.
