Re: Cryogenic rocker treatment
Could you have the rockers salt nitride coated? They use that in firearms applications and from what I gather its similar to having aluminum anodized. A hard surface treatment that resists corrosion and wear. Might be something to look into.

Re: Cryogenic rocker treatment
All the cryogenic treatment "might" do is stress relieve the part. It is NOT a hardening process.
If the part was already stress-relieved when it was made, expect a zero change.

Re: Cryogenic rocker treatment
Hmmm?.. are these stamped STEEL.. or cast iron rockers?
Cryo does nothing to promote the transformation of retained austenite present in heat treated steels into harder martensite steel? Also has nothing to do with hardening due to carbide precipitation?
Dammit!.. sure wish I would have known this before wasting all my money cryo treating cutting tools lawn mover blades and engine parts! Must be a placebo affect cause I thought my junk was lasting longer.
Re: Cryogenic rocker treatment
The cryo may help the rockers but easy break in with reduced spring pressure + add some moly to the oil and ensure LOTS of oil flow over the rocker so it gets to the ball.
Run it break it in just like a solid flat tappet camshaft break in and then add the racing spring pressure.
This allows the rocker and ball to create a seat in the rocker without excess heat and pressure.
This alos work hardens the seat in the rocker where the ball runs.
until this seat in the new rocker is established there is a lot of friction and heat.
The moly and lots of oil flow keeps the new rocker from over heating and being torn up

It is the same deal as new racing flat tappet cam break in.

You can also run the trays that sit on top of the rockers. The oil ends up shooting out of the rockers under pressure and the tray/tin reflects it right back down on the rocker arms.

Re: Cryogenic rocker treatment
what about REM polishing or its cousin Keramo finishing? Perhaps this AND cryo? Whoever does your polishing needs a fairly small dia. for the ceramic media. I suppose you could hand polish them instead
Re: Cryogenic rocker treatment

you can also use "kool nuts" like GM use on their crate track engines. http://www.jegs.com/i/Crane-Cams/271/99 ... RkQAvD_BwE
Re: Cryogenic rocker treatment
The slotted rocker balls as in the Competition Products kits get mixed reviews: better oil access but less contact area..

They do but they're not long slot rockers. 7/16" stud and 1.6 ratioresurrectionjoe wrote: ↑Thu Mar 15, 2018 6:58 am http://www.competitionproducts.com/mobi ... ucts/2255/
