Rebuilding ford T&D shaft rockers

Post by createaaron »

I have a set of aluminum shaft rockers I got from a circle track racer that seems like it wasn't getting sufficient oil and it galled over half of the rockers bearings.

I have to replace 16 bearings (2 per rocker) and 3 shafts.

My question is, is it worth it to just replace the parts that are damaged? Or does Murphy's law say if I don't replace all bearings they will self destruct on my engine?

You already know the answer to your question.....one in all in, do the complete set and have peace of mind.

Sometimes, depending on shaft thickness & how the shaft is mounted, the mounting bolts are overtightened & distort the shaft. With the shaft no longer being round, the rockers bind up. Not a lubrication issue in this case.

Keep in mind that aluminum rockers, like aluminum rods, have a finite fatigue life; the higher the load the shorter the life. If they've already done thousands of laps with say 700# open loads... :-k

It's hard to say how many laps/miles were on this particular set. They're pretty chewed up and I got reamed on this deal with the guy so I'd like to make them work one way or another.

Replace the 3 shafts and price the bearings for a whole set...if its not terrible replace all the bearings, if not fix what's broke and move on. They break again then buy a new set.
