I thought they might have more to do with IC simulation. Have you or anyone you know used them for a simulation program?
I do not use the finite difference model because it uses the method of characteristics for boundary conditions. I prefer using the GPB method as developed by Blair and Co-workers and students as it solves the boundary conditions using the base equations. The basic MoC equations are non-conservative and requires extra work to ensure mass and energy continuity is preserved.
