Well-designed carbs don't have gaskets below fuel level which could dry out and leak over time with occassional use...

Use a pair of them on a dual carb adapter.
The blower shop sells it.
Jets and rods simple tuning it.
2x750. 2x 650. ...

Do you frequent any race tracks? Circle, drag, road race. Next time you go, just take a quick mental note on how many guys have Holley carbs, or a derivative of one. And then see if you can even find an Edelbrock carb. Pretty much sums it up.

Which carbs do you have? For an engine like that I'd probably use dual 500 cfm Edelbrock carbs. The dual 500 cfm setup will be good for most any street driven engine. The Edelbrock carbs are easy to setup and they have an excellent idle circuit that really smooths the engine out on the street.

I run a lot of dual carb setups on the street. My choice is ORIGINAL Carter AFBs.JMO,a pair of 500s are way too small for a 454 let alone with the blower.Factory 409s came with a pair of 625 AFBs.I forsure would not go smaller that that.I run a pair of 750 factory AFBs on a 434 N/A with no issue at all.FWIW,Tom

A 4-71 blower is just to small on any 454 size engine for any appreciable boost other than playing around on a "cruiser" at 2 pounds or so; and then it is gonna make a LOT of heat and the compression ratio needs to be made even lower than expected.

In my opinion, Using dual 4 barrel carbs is certainly not going to be of any benefit and just a waste.

Good point about the tiny blower.

The ignorance and thus mis information is really thick here.

The 4-71 on a basic 454 is more than capable of a real deal 650+++hp
on pump gas. Do not choke off with a small carb or small carbs.
Use 2x650's minimum. 2x750's is JUST right.
Drive the 4-71 blower at a 1.3:1 to 1.6:1 drive ratio on the 454.
this is no where near excessive.
Use a ready available off the shelf cam such as a Comp XE284H-10 hyd flat tappet
or A comp XR 286R-10 solid street roller cam.
These are both great on street blower 454's
The edelbrocks are very easy to set up for roots supercharging.
The only real critical thing is the power piston spring choice
Use the 10.5" vacuum rated springs in the carbs.
Carbs will need rejetting.
Edelbrock carbs do not like big fuel pressure 5.5psi at idle is great.
Yes you want a low cr for pump gas. 7.5 to 8.5:1
Home ported 049 or 781 oval port heads with larger 2.19x1.88 valves are fine. Use with flat top forged pistons for a street blower friendly low cr.
It will make big power and plenty boost 7psi is plenty on pump gas.

A blower drive ratio of right about 1.42:1 to 1.50:1 should be smack dead on for 7psi boost on a 4-71 street blown 454.
It will make BIG reliable street power at this drive ratio BUT DO NOT choke it off with a single carb or small carbs. A roots blown motor has to EAT.
if you add a water/methanol injection system you can use a lot more boost and make even more power by driving the 4-71 blower a bit faster,
(1.6:1 to 1.8:1 drive ratio)
Well in excess of 700HP. Do not choke it with small carbs.
It needs 2 big carbs for this. 2x eddy 750's are fine.
Ya a 8-71 makes more ultimate power.
This is all about getting great power from a 4-71 on a 454.

Agree, use the Edel or original AFBs. Keep the Holleys for door stops....
