Re: Ford FE with pins pressed into bushings
Fitting new bushings .002" small (sounds like they only had .0005" interface) and installing the pistons using a rod heater would work perfectly well, but every FE piston is set up for locks, so I don't see the point of doing it.
I've seen several FE cores with pins pressed into bushings. It had worked fine; the engines were worn out, anyway.
Later, remembering those rods, I tried using bushings to reduce the pin bore for a rod swap in a stroker. I pressed the bushing into the rod, honed it for .0015 interference, put it in the rod heater, and when I pulled it out to put the piston on, the bushing fell out and rolled under the bench.
"Maybe this wasn't really a good idea..."
