Quench, Ignition timing?

Post by 88bluestar »

.015 deck, .060 head gasket. A lot of quench. Bowtie vortec chamber on 91 pump gas. 9.5:1 compression 360 cid

Question being with such a large quench would it make sense to run a bit more timing?

After dyno ing a 408 dodge magnum headed motor and finding 30 degrees total produced best power, i would go conservitive on timing. Who would have thought a 1990s head design could be that efficient? I didn't till we tried it on the dyno. Not the same head obviously, but it might perform well with less timing than is thought.
1965 dodge Dart, 549 cu in wedge, 8.60 at 156 mph best. 2905 lbs, soon, 8.40s!

I just chassis-dyno'd my car with 11.3:1cr 360ci Mopar SB with late 80's heads.
Best torque and power was at 28° advance.
0.028-0.030" quench height.
Fuel was propane.
So no Chevy, different fuel, probably hardly any helpful in this topic.
