Re: comp spring and retainer alternative
They claim the tool steel retainers are 33% lighter than the chromoly ones. But I haven’t had an opportunity to use them yet.

Re: comp spring and retainer alternative
You will find that several companies rate their spring without the retainer installed. When you install the retainer, the inner spring is compressed with the step, therefore spring pressure is higher. I prefer the lightened steel retainer to titanium.

Re: comp spring and retainer alternative
i have a set of dual springs that i checked this morning,but they have a spring rate of 400 lb/in.
will this kill that SFT in question??
using 1.5 RR
installed 1.75'' seat load 140psi
full lift after lash 0.477'' open load 331psi
331-140 = 191 / 0.477'' = 400.4 lb/in
using 1.6RR
installed 1.75'' seat load 140psi
full lift after lash 509'' open load 346psi
346-140=206/0.509 =404 lbs/in
i did not check coil bind but there is room as i have used these springs in a bigger Crower cam some years ago and that cam looks fine.
any information on this spring rate appriciated as i dont have enough experience to make a judgement call

Certainly not; especially after the cam & lifter set have already been broken-in.steve cowan wrote: ↑Tue Sep 11, 2018 5:16 pm i have a set of dual springs that i checked this morning,but they have a spring rate of 400 lb/in.

If those springs have enough clearance, they will work fine.
