Re: L98 build
A stock '67 350SS L-48 engine at 10 or up to 10.25 CR is advertised at 295 hp with just the old 283, -929 hy-cam.
My Buddy, "Nuts", installed the good old -151 350hp/327 hy-cam in it and it woke right up.
Therefore imho, you should be at least at 320 or possibly 330hp!

Re: L98 build
Add 2 summit racing stickers and you could see north of 375hp...lol. In my opinion the heads stock without some work will prevent you from getting there. Add a set of vortec heads...no problem.

Re: L98 build
The 083 heads do flow enough in stock form at .400" lift to make 45 hp per cylinder.

Re: L98 build
325 is just a number. The real question is whether or not it will perform up to your needs expectations.
So much to do, so little time...
Re: L98 build
I ran an efi version with a street tunnel ram type intake and stock L98 roller cam with 1.6 rockers. Rest of the bolt on stuff, headers, pulleys etc. it made 254 whp lean and would have been lower 260’s richened up. Estimate that to be 310 crank so you can get close i am sure
Re: L98 build
I would probably look to a single patter cam with a tighter (~108) lobe separation and duration around 220 @ 0.050 with those heads. Something like the isky 270 megacam would be perfect. I would expect this to build a lot more midrange torque than the cam you spec'd above.
Re: L98 build
You can exceed the power expectations if you put some work into those cylinder heads. Of course that will involve more effort than asking people on the internet.
How much.....? Those 083 heads are the "camelback heads" of the 80's. Respond well to portingfor flow improvements.

Re: L98 build
Fwiw, my pair of old 305HO, -601 heads have 1.84"/1.50" valves, hardened seats, 160 cc intake ports, 53 to 55 cc chambers that are double quench like the original, "fuelie", -461 heads. And I cc'd my chambers and one intake port, I forgot what the exhaust port cc'd, sorry... One head was 53 cc's and the other head, 55 cc's! Two end chambers.....
Imho, they are a dandy head if the CR doesn't get too high on a mild engine..
