Have wondered about why Holley used down leg boosters in the primary with straight leg boosters in the secondary on the original
770 CFM 426 Race Hemi carbs? Were the early Holley 780's the same way?

The simple answer is because those are what provided the primary and secondary fuel curves which Chrysler Corporation dictated.

The original List 3310 780 cfm vacuum secondary's were dogleg both front and rear.
