Maximum lifter bore size for factory Ford 302 block

Post by groberts101 »

Simple question. Can a stock 1974 Ford 302 block accept a 1.060" OD keyway style lifter bushing?

And what if the main oil gallery has been punched out to 1/2"? Anyone installed larger OD bushings in a stock 302 or 5.0 block or know what the maximum lifter bore diameter limits are while still avoiding the main oil supply passage?

Jesel custom shop makes special bushings to keep oil where it belongs if you break through. Somewhat common issue on certain sb chevy blocks.

No one makes a Mushroom type lifter for the Ford?

Thanks for the timely reply, Bill. Been talking with CHE on the matter and they didn't mention the shortened oil band so will call again today.

Looking to use up some shelf parts. Existing bores are sloppy so it was buy new parts and bore to heavier .904 link bar style or buy bushings. I have Wyndorfs keyway indexing tool already so this seemed like the cheapest and most logical way to go until my aluminum block bullet is done.

.904" lifters can use a 1.002" OD bushing which is no problem is stock block.

We have bored many stock .875 lifter bores out to .904 no problem. No bushings to buy, just labor. Much cheaper.
