Fully ported intake

Post by redliner »

(3100 lb drag car)Would a 414 sbc with 11.5-1 compression and a cam that is done at 7000 heads that are 2.5 @ pinch be quicker with a fully ported and modified plenum manifold and a Dominator or an as cast manifold and a 850 carb? Just looking for thoughts...

I have seen the 20hp # thrown out there for a fully ported intake on an engine that needs it and a Dominator adapter seems to favor a SBC over a Dominator specific intake... results may vary.

Thats what I am wondering... do I need it? Mark Whitner 1050 Dominator. Car runs very well 10.14 @ 131.69. only 1.43 60' though. 3100 lbs with a 4-speed. I might try my Holley intake which isnt ported and my 850 Race Demon.

I think without trying you can't say for sure, I have seen thing that should work that didn't and things that shouldn't that did.

Of course if you go from a ported dom flange to a none ported 4150 flange then it's hard to say what part did what but testing things is part of the fun.
