Collector length and diameter? Do the specs agree with Pipemax? Was there a down turn from the port or more like dyno/ boat/ Hotrod headers? Just curious as need to build headers for Hotrod with 2v Cleveland with 1.625 primaries. Great work on a stout combination that should have good manners.
Pipe max was within 8 hp and 5 ft lbs. I can’t recall the tubing length or diameter it recommended.

10.7 compression. Mahle 1.0 mm rings. 2mm oil.
Max 1.5 cfm on the blowby meter during run.
Power peaked at 6800

1 1/2 primaries.2.5 collector. Tried larger 1 5/8
3.0 collector. 5 hp gain is all.
A/f tuned to 12.6 ish.
Awesome little motor you put together there. Good job!

Gives me a ray of hope my lil' 11.5:1 compression 310" jobber can hit 430/390 with slightly smaller Jones cam. Hope all the porting and high tech speed tricks pay off to end up close to your results per/cid.

The smaller pipes on that hp combo are 'just' on the small side, the bigger pipes are on the big side. Not surprising at all.

No it's not surprising at all. Calven Elston once told me a little 302" motor could even benefit from 1.375" primaries stepped to 1.5" and still support well over 400 horsepower. Look at randy's truck pull motor. Well over 700 horse and 9'000 rpm on 1.625" primaries.

The way I see it is if a dual duty street/strip motor "needs" a bigger pipe to show larger gains then they're likely full of crappy bends and or something else wasn't optimised for that particular combo of parts.

grant6395 wrote: Sat Oct 13, 2018 9:57 pm I was pleasantly surprised also. I thought about 1.3 per inch would be the norm for these type of street engines. We were blessed with accurate o2 sensors for a change on the dyno, and ended up with a 6 jet size spread to get them as even as possible. This was with a crappy 12 by 3 inch air cleaner on it also. ( with picked up 8 hp. Lol. ) 94 octane pump fuel. The headers shocked me a bit. I thought the larger tube would prevail by a bunch. But it didn’t. A thank you to mike jones is in order. I have yet to see a build like that with shelf parts(like AFR heads) make that torque per cube on the dyno I use. Ive seen it on those kind of heads with high compression etc....but not in that street type arena. And some of the other "internet experts" heads tend to do worse than that. MOOMOO...nevertheless should be a fun deal. Dynos be Dynos FACT
