Throw a 6500 stall converter in it and let her eat.
Re: Thoughts on dirt track motor for drag racing?
Several years ago I bought a used 421 that was built for and ran in dirt late model but had found it's way into a pulling truck before I got it. Stock block with splayed caps, Eagle crank and rods, JE pistons, UltraDyne cam. It came with Sportsman II heads we changed them for Profiler 176X. We also had to change the oil pan to fit the chassis. New rings and bearings when the heads when changed. It's been in our 3000 lb. G-Body Bracket Car for 5 seasons now and is started to get tired, but still runs hard (10.40's in good air). We are planning on replacing it over the winter, but I have been very happy with it so far. Good Luck !!!

Re: Thoughts on dirt track motor for drag racing?
Thanks Sodbuster. Car should come in right around 2650 without me in it. I think this may be a pretty potent combo. I 1/8 mile bracket and index mostly. Hope this combo can get me around the 6.20s or better. If I can make the 6.0 that would be even better. That would give me the options of 6.0, 6.50, or 7.0 index. I love the heads up racing and I think the fans around here love it too. Payouts are a lot better for us as these events are very popular around here. Any of the 6 tracks within a couple hours of me are always having an index race. Again thanks for your input.Sodbuster wrote: ↑Tue Oct 16, 2018 10:02 pm Several years ago I bought a used 421 that was built for and ran in dirt late model but had found it's way into a pulling truck before I got it. If that motor in a 2650 lbs car don't go 6.0 or 5.80 somethings wrong. My 422 with flat tops pistons , Dart 220 heads a 260/268@.050 .675/.645 lift cam ,ancient holley 750 DP in a 3200 lbs car is doing 6.50in the 1/8 . It has gone 6.31 with a better carb and very little tuning . Dan

I put a dirt track small block in my stock chassis camaro, injected alcohol, lots of compresion, a 5 speed lenco and a drag race cam. First time out with the combo it went 8.80's @ 152 at 3100lbs
Engine made 810 on the dyno and is super reliable. i will try to find a couple of videos

My goal is in the 5s. I am hoping it will go the 5.80 because that is the index racing I really want to do! Im thinking I will get there with this combo but Im not certain. Thanks for your input sir and I hope you are correct!6.50camaro wrote: ↑Wed Oct 17, 2018 1:40 pm If that motor in a 2650 lbs car don't go 6.0 or 5.80 somethings wrong. Re: Thoughts on dirt track motor for drag racing?
Thats awesome! I hope my combo will put me at5.8x or 5.9x 1/8 mile. Its a hair over 14 to 1 compression and I will be running on c16. I would be happy with low 6s depending on what the car weighs when im done. Thanks for your input.clutchdude wrote: ↑Wed Oct 17, 2018 4:48 pm I put a dirt track small block in my stock chassis camaro, injected alcohol, lots of compresion, a 5 speed lenco and a drag race cam. Re: Thoughts on dirt track motor for drag racing?
I think We are leaving quite a bit on the table, both with the chassis, engine, and tune but we dialed in the 6.70's and 6.80's all summer, depending on the air. About 1.45 is the best we ever 60' foot. With the lighter car and your engine and a little tuning you should be able make you 6.20 goal with no problems. Good luck and Have FUN !!!splitdecision71 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 17, 2018 8:36 amThanks Sodbuster. Car should come in right around 2650 without me in it. I think this may be a pretty potent combo. What compression is this motor? I have a new combo 414 11.5-1 262/268, .421/.412 lobe lift, 110 in at 106, 227 S p i e r Profilers,in a 3100lb car with a TKO 600/ 4.88 Olds rear. Best time (@ 34* timing) is 10.14 @ 131.69.I just wondered if this is in the ballpark?Sodbuster wrote: ↑Tue Oct 16, 2018 10:02 pm Several years ago I bought a used 421 that was built for and ran in dirt late model but had found it's way into a pulling truck before I got it. Redliner, what are your 60' times ? I think you are really close ,for your MPH you could be .08 quicker on e.t. . 60's should be 1.40's this is according to Wallace Racing Calculators . Dan

Re: Thoughts on dirt track motor for drag racing?
Sodbuster, the current set up in the car is an iron headed 406 and it runs 6.90s at around 98mph. Best it has run on motor early in the year was 6.83 @ 100.9mph. I am not sure what the compression is or what the cam profile is as the car was left to me by a great friend. It had been sitting for 20 years and he asked me to get it out and have fun with it while he was away. I can tell you the heads and intake are bowtie from an old dirt track guy back in the day.Sodbuster wrote: ↑Wed Oct 17, 2018 7:46 pmI think We are leaving quite a bit on the table, both with the chassis, engine, and tune but we dialed in the 6.70's and 6.80's all summer, depending on the air. The 60" times range from 1.43 - 1.5. This is a stick car with a sintered iron disc and an adj Ram pplate. I have only run the 10.14 once but 131+ several times. Also, only 34* timing so far6.50camaro wrote: ↑Thu Oct 18, 2018 10:30 am Redliner, what are your 60' times ?
