700 RWHP with stock manifolds!
Just read where one of the Mopar racers in the Factory Appearing Street Tire series (FAST) is making 699.2 HP at the wheels with his 1969 Hemi Roadrunner. Now you can do anything internally to the engine including stroking but you have to run the stock intake and exhaust with a max 2.5 inch exhaust system. These guys are in the 9's now at almost 140 MPH on little bitty F and G-70-15 tires!!
The car must remain STOCK appearing
The car must remain STOCK appearing
Re: 700 RWHP with stock manifolds!
The original factory blocks have been bored and stroked to 472 cubic inches and a bump in compression could pretty easily get to 699HP with the dual quad setup even with a stock manifolds and 2.5" exhaust pipes. The later Mopar performance blocks I am told can get to 572 cubes. I am not sure of all the engine rules this car is restricted to but this depending on all of the rules seems doable.
The rule stating the car must be "stock appearing" really leaves a big pool to swim in if it's that literal a rule.
In any event , sweet build with results to match.

The Older I Get, The Dumber I Get
Re: 700 RWHP with stock manifolds!
Any compression, cubic inch size, any porting and any cam you want but it has to sound close to stock. I think they have a minimum vacuum rule at idle. They are fun to watch with some pulling the wheels up on launch!

If it's the FAST series, then yes. "Factory Appearing on a Stock Tire" is what it's all about.Newold1 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 09, 2018 6:04 pm The original factory blocks have been bored and stroked to 472 cubic inches and a bump in compression could pretty easily get to 699HP with the dual quad setup even with a stock manifolds and 2.5" exhaust pipes. For example, here are the engine rules specifically:Most parts of the car will fall into one of four categories:
1) Correct* OEM parts. These parts must be proper for the year, make, model, and horsepower claimed, and they must be Original Equipment Manufactured (OEM) parts. Examples: Intake manifold and cylinder heads.
2) Correct* parts. These parts are the same as Correct* OEM parts, except they do not need to be OEM manufactured. Reproduction parts, that duplicate the Correct* Original parts in appearance, form, function and material and are primarily designed as “restoration” parts are allowed, as long as they comply with all other applicable rules. Examples: wheels, upholstery, emblems, replacement sheet metal, etc.
3) Spec parts. Parts that meet a specification defined in the rules, but are not necessarily Correct* or stock appearing. Examples: tires, exhaust system. Note: Every effort should be made to achieve a stock “look” with these parts. For example; your car did not come from the factory with a 2-1/2” mandrel bent exhaust system. But it is specified in the rules that you may run one. Do not have it powder coated pink or highly polished stainless. Rather, try to keep the finish somewhat consistent with what the original correct* exhaust system would have been.
4) Correct Appearing. Everything not specified otherwise must be correct appearing. “Correct appearing” and “appearing correct” means: upon a cursory visual inspection by someone reasonably familiar with the year, make and model claimed, it looks like a correct* part.
ANYONE USING NITROUS OXIDE WILL BE BANNED FROM PARTICIPATING FOR LIFE!
2.00 ENGINE
2.01 Engine block must appear to be a correct* original block and must be of the same engine family and exterior size. The block must be made from the same material as the correct* original block. Approved aftermarket replacement blocks are allowed (see list below).
If you want to use an aftermarket block that is not already preapproved it is up to the individual to submit all the necessary information to the FASTRACES LLC so the block in question can be properly investigated. (part numbers, casting numbers, web site links, company names, phone numbers, etc) Raised decked and raised cammed blocks will not be approved. There will be a 560 cubic inch limit on all engines except the Ford 429/460 based power plants which will be allowed 620 cubes.
If you think you can get more than the allotted cubic inches out of a stock production block you will have to contact the FAST Board of Director and have your combination approved prior to racing.
2.01a -Approved Aftermarket Replacement Block List:
End Of Approved List.
2.02 Dealer installed engines and dealer performed modifications are not allowed.
2.03 Cylinder Heads and Intake Manifold MUST be correct* OEM casting, have correct* original casting numbers and be of correct* original material.
This may very well be the most important and teched F.A.S.T. rule.
Note: Any cylinder head or intake manifold that is not the correct* casting number, must be approved and published on the F.A.S.T. website.
Casting date codes are not looked at and are not part of the tech process.
2.04 Internal engine modifications OK.
2.05 The entire engine compartment and engine assembly, including accessories, must appear correct, except for items specifically defined otherwise in these rules. Appearance of the engine will be inspected with the air filter housing off and on. Removal of pollution control air pump is allowed. Engine torque strap OK.
Engine color should appear stock.
2.06 No Nitrous Oxide allowed.
2.07 Lightweight mini starters OK. If painted to appear as stock as possible.
2.08 Aftermarket harmonic balancers are OK, if painted to appear as stock as possible.
2.09 Maximum of 2 OEM type intake manifold gaskets allowed between manifold and cylinder head.

Interesting because back when these vehicles were new with 350 HP at the rear wheels they had traction issues with G70 tires...So now they have twice the power on the same tires? Must be some trick suspension ?

The tires are made by corker tire. They must look like
factory tires but they are soft rubber drag racing
rubber compound.

Do they run drag race type suspension set ups ?Barry Burch wrote: ↑Sat Nov 10, 2018 7:17 am The tires are made by corker tire. They must look like

Re: 700 RWHP with stock manifolds!
Soft launch setups with finely tuned suspensions and weight transfer. Same challenge as small tire cars with big power adders.
Re: 700 RWHP with stock manifolds!
This is Dave Dudek's RR and if you go to the FAST Races Facebook page and scroll down there is a video of the car on the chassis dyno.
Watch how the rear suspension works and of course crank up the volume! https://www.facebook.com/david.dudek.58 ... 648609590/
Have been watching these guys run since 2001 when running low 11's was a big deal!

Automotive Machining, cylinder head rebuilding, engine building. Can't seem to quit
Re: 700 RWHP with stock manifolds!
What does it cost to build one that can run with the best? Just the cost of the mechanical stuff ,not the cost of the car body

Re: 700 RWHP with stock manifolds!
Why do they let 460 fords have 60 more cubic inches than every one else?
Re: 700 RWHP with stock manifolds!
They don't "let" the 460 Ford engine have 60 cubic inches more than other engines.
Some of the stock 460 Ford blocks will accept a 4.5" bore.
And the same block will accept a 4.75" stroke.
The engine from the outside must appear stock. Block, intake and exhaust manifolds, ect.
The fastest that I have seen has been a 9.84 at a shy 140 MPH out of a Cobra Jet Mustang.
Same rules for everybody.
