New SBC Manifold with tooling

Post by JoePorting »

Just thought I would show the new SBC intake manifold I'm working on. It's for my custom 18 degrees heads. I would have put this in my other thread on the subject, but the attachment folder wouldn't come up, so I couldn't put any pictures on it. ??? This manifold is more of a "H" manifold instead of the usually SBC "X" manifold. I think this is going to work better since the inside port air doesn't have to come in at a 45 degree angle which I assume screws up the air coming into the head. The port size is 2.7" X 1.5", so it's made to move some air. The heads it's going on should flow 500 CFM. They have been cast already. They are 57 pounds each as cast, so they are a big tall head. The Solidworks file has the final weight at 44 pounds. Normal SBC heads are around 20 pounds as a comparison. Just waiting for the CNC work.

That's pretty awesome, a very extreme H manifold.
Will it work with existing 18* heads, or is it specific to your 18* head?
Wonder if I could make it work on my big cube SB, as its a RR head on a tall deck block, so the ports need to be located high.
Any pics of your 18* heads? inline wedge?

Why isn't the transition from the carb pad to the 1,2,7,8 runners a bit smoother with some "roof pitch" built into the manifold front to rear?
Could you add some material in front and behind the carb pad for this? not criticizing, just my initial thoughts.

Looks great . The H pattern is interesting.
This is the intake manifild I envisioned for my 6 venturi carb. You could cast a special version with a bolt on carb flange that is much longer like a 4-71 blower inlet flange.
This will alow the end user to use some other different carb layout possibilities. Using his own bolt on top plate.

Interesting stuff.

This manifold is just made for my heads, but it might come close to fitting others, although the 2.7" port height will probably be too much for most.

I think this port roof will work best. I wanted a clean straight shot to the head.

Turning this into a two peice manifold with a top and bottom is an interesting idea.

The removable top gives it marketability.
1. Not everyone wants to (nor should) run a single dominator.

2. The removable top allows playing with the internal
To optimize to the carb(s) and vehicle purpose.

3. Means now you can make and sell some and put some bucks in your pocket to fund more research.

Could cast the manifold with small size port openings to allow the end user to finish port for his SBC heads.

Did you do any dyno testing in a prototype form?

IMHO this H pattern raised runner high rise intake should work very well with many forms of 3x2 carburation.

This project reminds me of the days when the Legends of hot rodding produced their wares from small shops and Two car garages....

Very nice! You do your own mold making and casting? Would love to build up a tunnel wedge 2x4 intake for my 427 Windsor!

I don’t like the line of sight on outside runners to carb. I do like your getting it done though many don’t.

That's what I was getting at..."line of sight" carb pad to outside runners.

I love the project! Interested in flow difference from port to port. Thanks, Charlie
