comp style induction on dirt burner

Post by airflowdevelop » Tue Apr 05, 2005 11:38 am

I have been approached by 2 different teams concerning additional HP for a 410ci sprinter. I have little to no experience with dirt work (and honestly would rather not). we are capable of picking these motors up 90-140 hp with the x head, and possibly over 200 hp with the gm splayed head. both combinations are legal...but the concern is...will it hook. I am sure I am not the only one that has been asked about such a project...any opinions?

thanks
Dennis

will it hook?

First if a customer came in and said he need more power.
The first thing I would ask>if the track was in good shape
could you run WOT all the way around?
IF he said no. I could build him something with more power
but he will not go any faster with out working on the car.
but he really needs to work on car set up.
This is my top 3 for winning on dirt:
3. Motor
2. Driver
1. A car that will turn!
IF you don't have 1 and 2 you don't need 3.
my 2cents worth

That's worth a LOT more than $.02!

I totally agree.

Have their current engines ever been dyno'd? Or was they told this combo makes (example) 800 hp,but actually only makes 675 hp and it just needs tweaked some. Or dyno their combo and let them see what it does make. Sounds to me they have their minds made up they need more power so they will have someone do it whether they can use the extra ponies or not. But..... if you did build them more hp and for some wild chance they do make it hook, well..........they would think you can walk on water!! To please some customers you got to give them what they want and not what you think even though you know what will work and what wont. It is their $$$$$ Brent

Is it a winged car or non winged and does it run on larger tracks or bull rings I build alot of stuff that runs on really tiny tracks and if it wont get off the corner Doesnt matter how much power you give him he will complain .

most "hot" 410's are making ~790-830 HP. this would be a winged car. I don't have much concern on the straights, it would be at the point of recovery.

Actually a hitting outlaw 410 is a little north of 830 but they run them very little before freshening them .A wing car will take just about all that you can throw at it power wise . The cars are so locked down that I doubt that you could give someone too much power to hook up.But they need to get off the corner so it kinda restricts alot of big head and camshaft combos . The most HP I have ever heard of claimed by any reputable builder for a legal 410 was 911 and that was Don Ott racing engines out of Penn.
