AL heads loosing temper?
I was talking about cylinder head sealing with a local engine builder, and he said he had a cust. enigne, SBC that would leak water. To make a long story short, he said they were canfeild heads and they had been overheated (twice) and canfeild told him they will loose there temper, and become soft and move around. Has anyone seen anything like this, or is canfeild heads just cast too thin? This is a blower motor? Thanks

-We went thru hell with a blower engine that did the same thing.
-We could get maybe 3 passes before the gasket would blow as long as we pulled the heads and milled the indented imprint from the head gasket wire ring out.
-If you really want to know, have the heads hardness tested and then you'll see exactly why the heads are junk.
-The only way to salvage the heads without total re-heatreat and complete re-machining is to put'm on a street driven application where the cylinder pressure is low enough that the soft areas can still hold the pressure.
