Sleeving LS1 iron blocks

Post by phoenix »

Aluminum blocks have been talked about on this board, pros and cons. Other than weight, an iron block seems to be a more rigid platform to build an "all out" motor. Could Darton MID sleeves be used on an iron block? What kind of problems might be expected?

Would be nice if someone came out with a iron performance block like Dart or World! :D

I talked to Steve @ Race Engine Developement and he said it was doable. However the LS1 block sleeving program he has done hasn't been dropping any sleeves. Also the LS2 blocks seems to be a good idea to sleeve them also :D

I was thinking of iron blocks specificly because they are more rigid than aluminum. Expansion rates of aluminum vs. iron can vary dramaticly between the two. Thanks Floyd for asking around for me.

The May 2005 issue of Hot Rod Magazine has a fairly good article by Will Handzel on Gen III blocks.

He discusses the iron block for 1000 and up fwhp uses. It's worth a read.
