looking for help in selecting Slicks

Post by bluenose »

Have an old 84 pro stock camero, all fiberglass, tube chassis, all aluminum 565, weighs 2250 with me in it. It also has a 1.86 PG and a dana 4.10, currently using Hoosier 33 X 16 X 15, D05"s on a 15" wide rim and getting 1.16 - 60', would like to get a better 60'and I need new slicks, should I stick with what I am using or maybe look at a stiff side wall or a different compound or a different size. I run a 4 tracks and the traction is fair, tracks are not the smoothest by any means, all have concrete burn out and launch, usually a bump where it switches to ashfalt. Looking for advice and past experience, I forgot to mention I am currently switching to a Terminator from a 1050, thanks.

Have you tried a harder compound, like the C07? I know it works better for me.

You're doing pretty good already, but if you want to chase those last few numbers on your 60' then consider a data logger with a basic driveshaft speed sensor. You'll be able to see the tire wad up, see if you have tire speed, and see if you are dead-hooking or not. It will also show you whether that bump at the transition really matters, and you can tell within a couple of passes if the tires are going away or the track is marginal.

Thanks Brian,
Any suggestions on a data logger? I spoke with Hoosier rep today and he also suggested to go up on the compound to at least a D06, thought maybe the C07 might not work for me as well as the tracks don't use alot of compond and they are not the smoothest.

If your looking for a Data Aquisition Logger, I would suggest the Autometer Dash Logger. We are the Division 1 Autometer rep and can answer any questions you may have. Here is the link to the websight
